Dr. RJ Skalos

Dr. Skalos is originally from the Zelienople and Harmony area but grew up in a military family, which gave him the opportunity to live in many places around the world. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology, with minors in chemistry and human resource management, from Slippery Rock University. He later received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Following graduation, Dr. Skalos completed a post-doctoral internship at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Minnesota, where he focused on small animal medicine and surgery. He then spent several years practicing emergency medicine, including time at BluePearl in Pittsburgh. Although he valued the experience, he always dreamed of owning his own practice. That goal became a reality when he opened Windrose Animal Hospital.

Dr. Skalos’s professional interests include anesthesiology, pain management, cardiology, and business management.

Outside of work, Dr. Skalos is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and a Certified Cicerone. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, watching sports, and exploring local breweries with his wife, daughter, and their dogs.
